Building a social life that doesn't revolve around alcohol
First dates happen at bars. Flights come with a drinks cart. Celebrations come with a toast. The world quietly assumes drinking, which means a sober social life has to be built on purpose.
The good news is that intention works. Morning activities, shared hobbies, volunteering, running groups, recovery meetings that turn into coffee afterwards. These are all ordinary ways people rebuild a circle.
It's slower than it was. Friendships made in early recovery tend to be steadier for the same reason.
If you're at the start of this, one standing commitment a week is enough to begin. It doesn't need to be a whole new life on day one.
